“….bright, clear red-purple; the scented and fragrant bouquet has a warm spice and pepper introduction to the fleshy red and black cherry fruit of the perfectly balanced medium-bodied palate; the quality of the wine comes through on the lingering finish and aftertaste. Drink whenever you like. 94 points, $18, Screwcap, 14% alc” From Grampians, Vic. Drink to 2019 with kangaroo fillet. James Halliday

It’s made by one of most famous producers in Australia, who was a finalist in this year’s Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year. It’s not their top wine; that goes for $90, but this is their cheapie that usually sells for about $16 a bottle. We have it cheaper as they need to clear wine. The winery has not released this wine to the domestic market yet, but the previous four vintages were given 90+ points by James Halliday. The guys that organised the monster hit, One Tree Paddock Cabernet Saugivngon 2003 have also organised this wine for us, hence the One Tree Paddock name. Without a doubt, it’s destined to join our biggest sellers list, sitting alongside Elefante Tempranillo, Gran Sasso Montepulciano and One Tree Paddock Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. It’s ten bucks, made by one of Australia’s leading winemakers and is very quaffable.

Where/what and how? The wine is produced from parcels of fruit from the cooler climates of Grampians & Pyrenees; these regions provide the character and class of the wine. It’s backed up with warmer Swan Hill fruit which provides the value and drinkability. The nose shows big, rich aromas of black plum and dark chocolate. In the mouth it is medium bodied and ripe, with a fresh mix of blood plum, blackberry, dark cherry and a hint of pepper.
