Champagne Drappier Carte d'0r Brut NV
Drappier is ranked by Champagne authority Tom Stevenson as the most dynamic independent producer of the Aube.
Drappier is a small family owned house located in the Aube region in the south of Champagne. The Aube, which is actually closer to Burgundy than Reims, produces some intensely flavoured Pinot Noirs resulting in a fuller bodied and more assertive complex style. Andr and Michel Drappier have a firm philosophy, evolved over eight generations, to let the Terroir speak by using minimum sulphur and by extracting a remarkably low yield from their vineyards. Drappier is ranked by Champagne authority Tom Stevenson as the most dynamic independent producer of the Aube.
“This has only 7 per cent white grapes, making it almost a blanc de noirs. It has a strong, savoury, bready, developed bouquet showing lots of yeast autolysis. The rich, smooth, very appealing flavour has a streak of lemony acidity running through it and some liqueur sweetness. The finish is clean and dry.” 5 stars Uncorked; Summer 2004, Melbourne Age.
“This little known Champagne is almost entirely black grapes, with 90% pinot noir, which is reflected in a strongly bready bouquet and a rich, flavour-packed palate. It’s smooth and fine with an appley taste and noticeable liqueur, while lemony acidity enlivens the clean, dry finish.” Huon Hooke; Sydney Morning Herald Good Living, August 31st 2004
