Zeppelin Big Bertha Shiraz 2009
…opulent with loads of power and soft, fluffy tannins…91 Points.Tyson Stelzer.
This is made by Corey Ryan and while it’s clearly meant to be a fleshy, easy-going red there’s a bit more to it besides. This is a far more complete wine than your average run-of-the-mill quaffer. Everything works in harmony. The mulberried, dark berried fruit. The chewy, velvety tannin. The malty, spicy oak. And the way its jubey fruit flavours sing in a clear voice on the finish. Neither alcohol nor acid get in the way. And it just has a nice shape to it as it passes through your mouth. Hardly think you can go wrong. Zeppelin wines are made by Artisans of the Barossa winemakers Corey Ryan and Kym Teusner. They are sourced from vineyards either owned by Teusner or Sons of Eden, selected for their age (up to 80 years old), low yield and character.... James Halliday
Low-yielding Barossa vines provide traditionally generous qualities to this well prices shiraz. Raspberry jam, blackberry and spice on the nose show little apparent oak influence and the full bodied palate is jammy and mellow with ripe flavours, smooth texture and balanced tannins. Aging? Drink over 3 years. 4 Stars. Ralph-Kyte Powell, The Age Epicure.
