Bannockburn Geelong Sauvignon Blanc 2011

"seamlessly crafted masterpiece with a glorious decade in front of it." Tyson Stelzer
Every winemaking trick in the sauvignon book has been thrown at this wine, and a few more besides. Wild fermented on its skins in Frenchoak(and some Italian Acacia too), long ageing on lees and partialmalolactic fermentation. If you're still with me, it's for you! Coolseason acidity meets a profoundly textural and full palate, whilecelebrating the varietal distinctiveness of sauvignon. In anyone else'shands, such a recipe would be a cataclysm, but to Michael Glover it's aseamlessly crafted masterpiece with a glorious decade in front of it. 94 points. Drink 2012 - 2021""Tyson Stelzer

"Winemaker Michael Glover always pushes boundaries and ideas in a bid to question how best to make wine; the result is complex, fascinating styles such as this unusual and wonderful sauvignon blanc. There's so much going on and although there's a distinct leafy grassiness to it, it's tempered by citrus zest, spice, even a toasty, smoky character and creamed honey. Not a fruit-driven wine, it is savoury, textural and best enjoyed with food especially battered fish, thick chips and pickled onions.Jane Faulkner (The Saturday Age)

Yes, it’s under screwcap. It spends time on skins, goes through some (but not full) malo, spends time in 500 litre Acacia wood puncheons, and is 10 percent riesling. No doubt it has a raft of other quirks up its sleeve too. A line from the back label: “This wine aims to be uniquely Australian and uniquely Bannockburn.” Funky, rich, textural and shot with piercing, integrated acidity. Begs me to ask: what more could you want from a young sauvignon blanc? Gunmetal, mineral, passionfruit pulp, smoke and honeysuckle. Gravelly and assertive, a bit stinky, and a lot interesting. Flavour plus. Swallow, and feel it linger. Terrific wine.  Rated : 94 Points Alcohol : 13.5% Price : $27 Closure : Screwcap Drink : 2012 - 2015+ Campbell Mattinson.  www.winefront.com.au
