Wickhams Road Gippsland Chardonnay 2011
Great Value Chardonnay!
Made by the guys at Hoddles Creek Creek; the Wickhams Road wines are made with the same philosophy used with Hoddles Creek. They are single vineyard wines with the care and attention that has made Hoddles Creek such a success. The difference with Wickhams Road is that it has been sourced from trusted growers around Victoria. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
It’s not my style of Chardonnay to be sure, though I’m pretty sure Mattinson will love it. On opening – incredibly tight and tangy – a fully stretched bow of a wine. Given a day’s grace it built some weight and complexity. Funky sulphide work, faint white peach, green mango, ruby red grapefruit and blood orange sorts of flavours. Flinty, tight and lemony too, with an impeccable line of acid drawn from front to back of palate – though it shows a slight greenness. Naked refreshment of the cold shower variety. For Chardonnay Spartans, rather than Athenians. Rated : 91+ PointsTasted : Jan-12 Alcohol : 13% Price : $16.99 Closure : Screwcap Drink : 2013 – 2019 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
