Tellurian Pastiche Shiraz 2009
"a tremendous job" Campbell Mattinson
Tellurian ‘Pastiche’ Shiraz has been selected in the Top 100 Wines list compiled by Tony Love in the Melbourne Herald Sun, who wrote “A relatively new name on the Heathcote scene, though with experienced hands behind it sourcing fruit from vineyards across the region and delivering high quality shiraz without a big price tag. Limited oak usage highlights the blue and black fruits and coffee spice, with a fresh fine finish.” 91 Points.
Part from the estate vineyards on the western slope of Mt Camel Range, part from Touhey family vineyard on the eastern slope. More purple again to the vivid colour, the wine is in very different style to the standard Shiraz, more lively and edgy, with red and black fruits, licorice and spice. All about life and movement. Rating: 94 Drink By: 2024 Price: $26.00 Date Tasted: 06 Feb 2011 Alcohol:13.5%. James Halliday
This is a shiraz grown on both the Tellurian estate vineard and a nearby Heathcote vineyard. It was matured mostly in French oak with a smidge of American – which, with Australian shiraz, is rarely a bad idea. It’s fresh and fruity and extremely easy to enjoy. It’s welcomely lower in alcohol too – and appreciably so. It tastes of toast and plums, cloves and five-spice. There’s oak here but it’s low level; there’s tannin here but it’s been massaged so deep into the wine that you barely feel it. This wine was made by Tobias Anstead (ex Balgownie), and he’s done a tremendous job with it. Rated : 91 Points Alcohol : 13.5%Price : $25.50 Closure : Screwcap Drink : 2011 – 2014.
