The 2014 season in Heathcote provided exceptionally high quality fruit from the 15 year old Colbinabbin vineyard. The wine has vivid raspberry and red and black cherry aromas with some graphite and earthy characters as well as very subtle spices. The palate is fresh and supple with very good intensity, weight and length. It is quite complex and will certainly become more so. Currently the 2005 and 2006 are just approaching their very best and this wine will also improve well for five years at least. It is a wine that certainly has a foot in two camps owing to its style of deliciously medium weight Shiraz whilst also having Pinot lovers' fragrance and elegance
Fresh flavours of ripe plums, dark cherry fruits and matching cedar spices are seamlessly integrated with fine tannins and balanced acidity leaving a persistent fresh finish.
''It’s smooth, soft, rich and well-structured all at once. Blackberries, svelte plums, creamy oak, iodine and a modest run of herbs/spices.'' 93 Points, Campbell Mattinson
The palate has a refined mouthfeel with spicy blackberry, mocha, chocolate and licorice flavours above an underlying minerality, a hallmark of Heathcote.
''Red berry and plum fruits with pastry-like nuances and gently spicy waves. Rich. Effortless appeal and flows smoothly along on ripe, detailed tannins. Great balance. Drink now to 2028, '' Nick Stock - JamesSuckling.com
